Walter Plunkett sketch of Scarlett O’Hara’s green velvet curtain gown from Gone With the Wind
With the help of Margaret Mitchell, Plunkett learned how clothes were made during the blockade. The women who ran the Daughters of the Confederacy museums in Savannah and Charleston gave him samples of fabric clipped from the hems of skirts and showed him how walnut seeds and stones were made into buttons and how the thorns of thorn bushes were used as pins.
